The SMATEOM program champions the preservation of small ethnic groups and their unique crafts, which are vital to human, cultural, and historical heritage. This year, we are focusing on Nepal, particularly on the restoration of monasteries and the revival of local communities in the Mustang district.

Today we witness deserted monasteries on Tibetan land in Nepal as the textile production is being swallowed up by industrial giants, oblivious of the knowledge of natural medicine. This leads to the loss of a whole layer of global culture. What has been accumulated for centuries and millennia is erased in just decades.

Nepal is a poor country and its people especially those living in remote areas like Dolpo, Mustang, Jumla are struggling to find means to survive. The people over there send their children to monastery, who are otherwise deprived of opportunities to get education. The most of the students in the monastery come from poor families, who can't afford to pay fee for their children. By accepting these children, the monastery is not only providing them an opportunity to study but also providing them daily meals, clothing, bedding, sanitary items, educational materials and medicine when needed.

The modern concept of ethical living lies in realising / acknowledging / recognising /identifying oneself as a creative and inseparable part of nature.

To live in harmony with nature means merging with its rhythms, integrating into its processes, while remaining as non-harmful as possible.

THE UNITY OF THE MATERIAL AND THE SUBTLE

We have created / built a life concept that serves as a reference point for a human being. Discover our diverse tools for different areas of life designed to help you maintain focus, grow and reach a new level of consciousness and self-realization.

THE CONCEPT

The Mustang district is set in the Himalayan region of western Nepal around 2000-8167 meters above sea level. Located high in the heart of Muktinath, harsh and rocky plains of the Himalayas are the forbidden feudal kingdoms of Mustang. It is a sparsely populated region where an ancient Tibetan culture still reigns, protected from outside influence by its remote location. Local economic conditions and the lack of schools and healthcare facilities have forced many of the village people to relocate to larger villages or eventually go to Pokhara and Kathmandu.

More and more monks are also leaving the area in order to achieve further spiritual studies. In additional, in many areas of the Mustang district there is not a good monastic institute, which young generations can attend for their spiritual studies. Most of the monks are leaving the area to continue their studies elsewhere and often never return to the village.
